cold-hot dry compress
restless, sweaty, and unable to sleep they open their eyes on the dark to stumble to the kitchen and drag a soft cotton sack from the freezer. the cold is bracing, jolting them further from sleep, but back in the sticky hot cocoon of their bed the cool weight of the compress against their body is a boon that quickly allows them to relax and reach the dreaming.
the compress is unearthed from the freezer a few days later when they click off from a teams call that could have been an email. a smaller one this time is placed over their eyes while they consider throwing the laptop out the window for the 5th time today...
the cool lavender laced cotton is sweet and refreshing. when teams rings again, it doesn't even bother them.
when the season shifts from warm to cool, cool to frozen, they pull a mid size compress out of the freezer as well as a larger long one. both are placed in the microwave for a couple of minutes while they brush the snow from their hair with frigid fingers.
the compresses come out as they settle into the couch and rest the long one around their neck and shoulders, they cuddle the mid size one with their hands. the warmth and the fragrant smell of warm grains is soothing and allows the tension of being out in raw unwelcome elements to seep out of their body, the red chap of cold replaced by a more pleasant and welcoming temperature.
these compresses are made from 100% cotton fabrics and long grain white rice.
some have natural dried lavender buds in with the rice. they are one of the most simple forms of self care you can keep ready to serve in your home.
Sets may not be exactly as pictured and are based on availability.
these compresses should be kept in a sealed plastic bag in the freezer until use.
they can be pulled from the freezer and put in the microwave for 90 seconds until warm as well (less time for smaller or mid size compresses).
compresses should not be heated in the microwave for longer than 2 minutes at a time. flip the rice bag after 60 seconds.
these should not be made wet or stored outside of their bag in the freezer to keep them fresh for a long life.
be aware of your own tolerances for temperature when placing the compresses against your body whether cold or warm, wrap them in a clean dishcloth if they're too cold or hot.
